Despite the prevailing economic news, most of us are aware of the fact that we live in an incredibly wealthy society. It is not just the people who we see as wealthy who possess a lot of wealth either; the fact is that most North Americans are in the top 5% as far as wages earned each year when the facts are looked at on a global scale. While it is true that the cost of living here tends to be higher than it is elsewhere, many of us do have a little bit of extra money floating around at the end of each month. Even those with new homes with large mortgage payments. Even if you don't there are probably luxury areas of your life that you could do without.
And why would you want to do without that extra cup of coffee each week? Well, the answer is that to those whom much is given, much is expected. We are all lucky enough to be born into a society where most of us want for nothing, but this is not true for many people all over the world. The best way to show that you are thankful for what you have is to share that fortune with others, even if it does not always feel like a fortune. Sending a kid for an outing to summer camp or donating old clothing to a local cause can all give you that sense of helping the greater good.
For most people, the way to do this is to contribute to various charitable organizations. There are hundreds of different charitable organizations that have been set up all over the world, organizations that can only run because of the generous donations of people with regular incomes. Donations may come from salaried workers, corporations, or even small businesses. The point is that every little bit of money donated to charity counts and is used for a good purpose.
The point of this site is to discuss and point out some of the different charities that you can make a donation to as a resident of Canada. Each of us is concerned with a specific area, and no one could possibly donate to every good cause that there is out there. What we want to do is help you narrow your choices down to the charitable organizations you are most comfortable giving some of your hard earned money to.
To this end, we take a look at three different aspects of charitable giving. The first is the type of charity that you might be interested in. Some people are specifically concerned over the plight of overseas children, while others take a look around their own neighbourhoods and see that there are many needs there as well. There is nothing wrong with picking and choosing which organizations you give money to, the important thing is to give. We encourage donators to pick a charity close to their heart, and for this reason we break them down into different categories.
Now, once you have chosen a type of charity, you probably want to go into specifics, so we detail these as well. Different organizations will spend the donated money in different ways, and it is good to know how that money is being spent. Again, there will be charities that you feel are spending donations in a more efficient or wiser way than others, and specifics can help you to decide that. We will have information on where the money goes for the charities we talk about on this site.
Finally, you have to know exactly what options are open when you do decide to donate. Discussing the ways of donating is not as interesting as the charities themselves, but it is important information nonetheless. We will talk about who offers online donation options and how to make this type of contribution. We also have articles on the different types of giving and what they mean for the individual; even we have been surprised by the ways in which people prefer to give. And of course, giving to a certified charitable organization has benefits beyond the emotional for the giver and we will take a look at that as well.
There really is nothing more fulfilling than being able to help out an organization that is not set up to generate profit for itself with a portion of what you earn. There are so many different charities out there, though, that it can be hard to decide where the money should go. The only way to ensure that your gift is used how you would like is to gather information before you donate, and that is what we do on this website. Become an informed giver, and thank you for your willingness to share your money and make the world a better place!
